On the Membership Problem for Non-Linear Abstract Categorial Grammars
In this paper we show that the membership problem for second order nonlinear Abstract Categorial Grammars is decidable. A consequence of that result is that Montague-like semantics yield to a decidable text generation problem. Furthermore the proof we propose is based on a new tool, Higher Order Intersection Signatures, which grasps statically dynamic properties of λ-terms and presents an inter...
متن کاملA Polynomial Algorithm for the Membership Problem with Categorial Grammars
This article presents an overview of a framework called categorial grammars from a theoretical and algorithmic perspective. It provides an introduction to the formalisms of these grammars and of the tools they use (the Lambek Calculus) for theoretical computer scientists who are not familiar with them. We give a clear presentation of the main classical and recent results on these grammars, espe...
متن کاملNon-linear Second Order Abstract Categorial Grammars and Deletion
We prove that non-linear second order Abstract Categorial Grammars (2ACGs) are equivalent to non-deleting 2ACGs. We prove this result first by using the intersection types discipline. Then we explain how coherence spaces can yield the same result. This result shows that restricting the Montagovian approach to natural language semantics to use only ΛI-terms has no impact in terms of the definabl...
متن کاملTowards Abstract Categorial Grammars
We introduce a new categorial formalism based on intuitionistic linear logic. This formalism, which derives from current type-logical grammars, is abstract in the sense that both syntax and semantics are handled by the same set of primitives. As a consequence, the formalism is reversible and provides different computational paradigms that may be freely composed together.
متن کاملApplicative Abstract Categorial Grammars
We present the grammar/semantic formalism of Applicative Abstract Categorial Grammars (AACG), based on the recent techniques from functional programming: applicative functors, staged languages and typed final language embeddings. AACG is a generalization of Abstract Categorial Grammars (ACG), retaining the benefits of ACG as a grammar formalism and making it possible and convenient to express a...
